— The Challenge

Why this matters

Palms are not trees — they are monocots, and they require completely different pruning techniques. Improper trimming (over-pruning, or "hurricane cutting") weakens the palm, attracts pests, and can ultimately kill it. Dead fronds and seed pods also pose a real falling hazard to anyone below.

— Our Process

How we do it

01

Climbing & Access

Palms cannot be climbed with spikes (spikes damage the trunk irreparably). We use ladders, pole saws, or rope climbing systems to access the crown safely.

02

Dead Frond Removal

Only completely dead (brown) fronds are removed. We never remove green fronds — palms need them for nutrient production and wind resistance.

03

Seed Pod & Fruit Removal

Seed pods and fruiting bodies are removed — these attract rats, bats, and insects, and can cause a significant mess when they drop.

04

Crown Cleanup & Debris Removal

All fronds and pods are hauled away or chipped. The area beneath the palm is left spotless.

— FAQs

Common questions

How often should palms be trimmed?
Once or twice a year, depending on the species and how quickly it produces dead fronds. Washingtonia palms typically need annual trimming.
Why don't you use climbing spikes on palms?
Spikes create permanent wounds in the trunk that never heal. These wounds attract pests and pathogens and can lead to trunk rot. We use spike-free climbing methods.
Can you remove a palm tree entirely?
Yes. Palm removal requires cutting the trunk at the base and is typically simpler than hardwood tree removal, though tall palms still require careful rigging.
