Every tree is different. These case studies show how we approach complex challenges — from emergency storm response to heritage tree preservation.

Emergency Storm Response — Rooihuiskraal
A severe thunderstorm split a 15m blue gum tree down its co-dominant stem. Half the canopy was hanging over the client's roof; the other half was suspended over a boundary wall and the neighbour's carport.
We responded within 35 minutes of the call. The hanging section was stabilised using a temporary rigging line, then systematically dismantled from the top down. Each piece was lowered on ropes to avoid the roof, wall, and carport below. The main stem was then felled into the only safe drop zone on the property.
The tree was fully removed with zero damage to the roof, boundary wall, or carport. All debris was cleared by midnight. The client's insurance company commended the documentation we provided for their claim.

Heritage Oak Preservation — Irene
A 100-year-old oak tree on a heritage property had developed a large cavity at the base and a co-dominant stem with included bark. The owner wanted to save the tree, but two other companies had recommended removal.
We performed a full tree risk assessment using a resistograph to measure the extent of the decay. The cavity was significant but the remaining wall thickness was sufficient to support the tree. We installed a dynamic cable system to support the co-dominant union, performed structural pruning to reduce the sail effect, and treated the cavity to prevent water accumulation.
The tree was saved. Six months later, it weathered the summer storm season without issue. The cable system is inspected annually. The owner estimates the tree adds R200,000+ in property value.

Commercial Land Clearing — Centurion Business Park
A developer needed a 2,000m² plot cleared for a new commercial building. The site contained 14 trees — 8 to be removed, 6 to be preserved within the building footprint's setback. The project had a tight 2-week window before foundation work began.
We worked with the developer's architect to identify the 6 preservation trees and installed SANS 6035-compliant tree protection zones. The 8 removal trees were felled and processed — timber was hauled to a local sawmill, brush was chipped on site and used as mulch for the preserved trees. All stumps in the construction footprint were ground to 300mm below grade.
The site was cleared, levelled, and handed over in 5 days — 3 days ahead of schedule. The preserved trees were undamaged, and the developer saved on mulch costs for the landscaping phase.

Complex Dismantling — Eldoraigne
A 20m eucalyptus tree in a small backyard, leaning 15° toward a glass conservatory. No access for a crane. The only safe direction for felling was blocked by a swimming pool. Neighbouring properties on three sides.
Full sectional dismantling using advanced rigging. Our climber ascended to the top of the tree and installed a friction saver and rigging point. Every branch and trunk section was cut, roped, and lowered into the narrow drop zone between the pool and the conservatory. The base of the tree was dismantled last, using a jack to control the final cut.
The tree was removed with zero damage to the conservatory, pool, or neighbouring properties. The client was present throughout and described the operation as "like watching surgery." All debris was removed and the site was raked clean.
