— The Challenge

Why this matters

Deadwood accumulates in every mature tree. In Highveld storms, these dead branches become missiles — falling onto roofs, vehicles, and people. But removing them requires climbing into the canopy and making precise cuts without damaging the living tissue around each dead branch.

— Our Process

How we do it

01

Canopy Survey

Our climber ascends the tree and systematically identifies all dead, dying, and broken branches throughout the canopy.

02

Precision Cuts

Each dead branch is cut cleanly at the branch collar. No flush cuts, no stubs — just clean wounds that the tree can compartmentalise.

03

Lowering & Clearing

Cut branches are lowered on ropes where they overhang structures, or dropped into designated zones in open areas.

04

Site Cleanup

All deadwood is chipped or removed. The tree retains its full living canopy — only the dead material is gone.

— FAQs

Common questions

How often should deadwood be removed?
Every 1–2 years for trees near homes or high-traffic areas. Trees in open spaces can go 3–5 years between deadwood removals.
Will removing deadwood hurt the tree?
No. Dead branches are no longer contributing to the tree. Removing them actually improves tree health by eliminating entry points for decay organisms.
Can you tell if a branch is dead from the ground?
Sometimes, but not always. Many dead branches are hidden within the canopy. Our climber surveys the entire tree from inside the crown to find all deadwood.
